
Dr Haddadin was then chosen to serve as Minister of Water and Irrigation on Jordan’s Cabinet, and was in that capacity the counterpart to the Israeli Minister of Infrastructure, General Ariel Sharon. He followed up jointly with his Israeli counterpart on the implementation of the water component of the Peace Treaty, and the Jordan Rift Valley plan.
After distinguished government service in which he had achieved strides in planning and implementation of economic and social development of the Jordan Valley, and successes in water planning and management, Dr. Haddadin was invited to be a courtesy professor at Oregon State University where he taught a quarter every other year. He was invited to be the Second Century Lecturer at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, and was accorded the status of an affiliate professor at that university. He later was invited to be a Courtesy Professor at the university of Central Florida, Orlando.
Dr. Haddadin served as a member of the World Federation of Scientists in Switzerland (1999-2003). He further worked as a special adviser to HRH Prince El Hassan Ben Talal of Jordan on matters of regional cooperation and on the subject of terrorism.
Dr. Haddadin was recalled to serve the Jordan Government in 2011 as Chairman and CEO of Mawared, an urban development outfit, and as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Balqa Applied University in Jordan. He was then selected to be a Senator in the Upper House of Parliament (2018-2022) and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Jordan University of Science and Technology.
Dr. Haddadin has authored five books in English and six in Arabic. He has published a score of technical papers in prestigious professional journals, and was awarded the best research paper by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1972, and by the International Water Resources Association in 2001. He was decorated three times by H.M the King of Jordan, H.M the Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, H.E the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E the President of Italy, H.E the President of Austria, and His Beatitude the Patriarch of Jerusalem.
Born in 1940 to a Christian family in Maien, Jordan, Dr. Haddadin was educated for a year in the Kingdom of Iraq (1957-1958), and at Alexandria University, Egypt (1959-1963) before he pursued his graduate studies at the University of Washington in Seattle (1965-1969), where he earned two graduate degrees. He is married to an American wife and has two daughters married to Americans in the United States and a son working in Jordan after a dozen years on Wall Street. Dr. Haddadin was naturalised as a US Citizen in 1991 and has nine grandchildren.
